Staples Warehouse Facility

The site was a portion of an environmentally contaminated, 158-acre tract in the heart of Charlotte's Southwest industrial submarket. The former owners of the land spent decades cleaning up the site, and TKC was able to get it accepted under the N.C. Brownfields program. In addition to getting Staples comfortable with the exculpation of environmental liability the Brownfields program offers, the project demanded an extremely fast-track schedule. Design for the project's structural steel, mechanical systems and life safety integrated a 300,000-square-foot second-level mezzanine for Staple's state-of-the-art, automated picking and conveying system utilizing laser-guided vehicles and robotics.
